When I heard that Uniqlo were collabing with my favourite shop in London (Liberty, dur), I whipped my proverbial pen out and asked where I could sign. Those iconic prints and I go way back. Still at uni, I managed to wangle myself an internship at the prestigious store helping out with the visual merchandising.
I ended up getting to know that Tana Lawn pretty well, popping into the print archive department and asking the haberdashery for swathes of cotton which I then draped and pinned around mannequins to look like clothes.
Fast-forward 5 years and I’m wearing slightly more sturdy versions of my creations created by Uniqlo. Take an early look at some of the pieces in their collaborative range before they launch at the end of this week!
Liberty London for Uniqlo’s collection is part of the Lifewear range of basics – separates and dresses which layered up together pack a bloomin’ beautiful punch! With 42,000 prints to choose from in the Liberty archives, I imagine that Uniqlo had a fair task on their hands picking the ones for this collection, but I’m pleased to see that so far, they look like they’ve chosen some of my favourites!
I chose a simple poppy printed T-shirt and layered it under a denim top that I’d done a bit of a DIY dart-job on to create more shape. Paired with my denim culottes, I had a bit of a jumpsuit thing going on, creating a perfect length leg to show off those funky tie trainers. I love the little colour pop in the sleeves which matches against my bag.
I got a bit creative with the outerwear and opened up a collarless dress into a sort of Decorators’ apron. I love the shape, nodding to the quirky, minimal style that Uniqlo can be known for. I’ve got my peepers on the bright pink floral culottes for my up coming summer holidays too which you can clash against other floral tops for a strong summer look. There are also some rather fetching menswear pieces (love a man in a good print) and some for kiddo’s too.
Wanna get your mitts on it? The Liberty London for Uniqlo collection launches at 11pm online at Uniqlo.com on Thursday 17th March and you can pop along and pick yourself up a piece or two from Friday 18th. I’m looking forward to heading out to see the whole collection!
Thanks Uniqlo for letting me be a part of your project. Whilst this is in collaboration, the thoughts and style is all my own.
