Bratislava, Slovakia, Exploring Day 2!

Back to Slovakia we go and my second day exploring was even better than the first, as my Bratislava buddy Celine and I decided to visit the famous old castle (or Hrad) which once formed the head of the old walled city on the top of the hill. The old palace, which now houses the Slovak National Museum, commenced it’s life thousands of years ago but is still being renovated following a fire in 1811. At night the castle becomes a stunning beacon from the effect of hundreds of lights shining up the newly painted, bright white walls.

After climbing a set of sweet steps between houses, we were treated to a spectacular view of both the river Danube and Slovakian countryside sprawling away to one side, and the old capital city with its stunning terracotta roofs spiked with the odd turquoise spire to the other.

I created a quick little video of Bratislava to show you the view as I never find that photos make you feel enough like you were ‘there’! Hopefully you’ll feel the sun on your back and air of calm when watching it like we did when gazing over the stone walls! Ooh and the video starts with a quick look out of our apartment window where we stayed plus a little hello from Celine and Evgenia with whom I stayed. Cooey!

On our way back down through the old city, we stopped for a few twirls in the cobbled square in front of the theatre and I took a peek at the market stalls where I bought a postcard for my grandparents. I’m missing the weather already so it’s very lucky that tomorrow I’m off to Barcelona. Lots more on that later!

Beautiful photos! I went Interrailing around Europe this time last year, and Bratislava was one of the cities we visited. Unfortunately, my DSLR was broken at the time, so all I had was my iPhone, but you can see my post here:

    What a gorgeous city! x
