Make Your Own Dinosaur Necklace!
Did you know that the plastic fantastic brand Tatty Devine do workshops to make your own necklaces? Amazing huh?! A few weeks ago, I popped along to their East London workshop and made a real Tatty Devine dinosaur necklace that I can flaunt with so much pride that if anyone ever asks where it’s from, I can say ‘oh this? I made it!’
Ok so it wasn’t like I cut out every little vertebrae (there were about 28 individual pieces I remember correctly.) Luckily, the super duper Tatty lazer cutter that whizzes out every shape piece of acrylic you can imagine, did that job for me and all it took was getting all those teeny little pieces in the right order and then finishing off with a few cm’s of beading. BTW, if you stick all the little beads to your finger first, it’s way easier to pop them on the fishing wire! The last little job was to add the iconic Tatty Devine metal branded plectrum to the end of the chain and ta-daa! My very own dino necklace, created to just the right length!
Kristabel and I had great fun creating our bespoke jewellery pieces and meeting some other lovely like-minded ladies was fab too. That’s not even mentioning the brilliantly chirpy and endlessly patient Tatty Devine girls who occasionally dedicate their weekends to take the classes, baking dinosaur shaped cookies before hand just to get us in the mood and explaining all about how their pieces are made in Britain by a very dextrously fingered group of staff. It was just like being at a friends house, busily DIY-ing away whilst having a good gossip and a cuppa except, really, we were in the basement of Tatty HQ just off Brick Lane sat among jars of rivets and odd acrylic cut offs. It’s was the perfect Aladdin’s cave for any ShinyThoughts girl!
Thanks Tatty Devine for having us!
