A little while back was the day I said goodbye to my dear teenage years with a little bunch of friends in central London. Being a girl who loves to go out and see arty things, a trip to an exhibition seemed the perfect activity to do on my birthday (followed by food naturally!)
I chose to pop into ‘Pick Me Up’ at Somerset House which I had been looking forward to since fashion week. It was a Contemporary Graphic Design Fair where you could buy the art on display as well as OooOoogle at it!
It was the perfect sort of exhibition, full of bold graphic prints, little acrylic shapes, a print studio, Mr Rob Ryan himself and lots and lots of lovely screen prints and most importantly – colour!
Im very sad it’s already over – please let me know what you thought if you managed to catch it. I wanted to go back again there was so much to see! Here are some of my favourite bits…
Acrylic charms by Peepshop (I got treated to the cute skull key!), screen printed tote bags and ‘Moon Heads’ the band.
Screen printed beanbags!, books for sale, a set of hooks made from pencils and some funny little wooden characters
Rob Ryan himself was on hand to keep his cutter girls busy and share tips enthusiastically as if he’d never been asked before! He said to keep your wrist supple and hold the scalpel at the tip for optimum movement. For a better and more in depth look into Robs mini-studio and all his work on show, look at Carries post!
Jill (left) arranging wood blocks to create a design to print using a oil inks and a press. She later very kindly made me a birthday print, can you tell what it says?!
Brownie points if you leave me a comment saying what it is!
p.s Don’t miss other exhibitions like this! You can see wonderful events coming up that I’m interested in on the right side of this blog under ‘Shows and Must Sees’. Don’t miss out! See you there
